Meet the Team
Milana McLead, Editorial Director
What I do: In addition to being a juggler, firefighter, cheerleader, and storyteller (not necessarily in that order), I oversee the Publications and Information Resources team.
What I like: Publishing, Starbucks, gardening, white food groups (pasta, potatoes, cheese), Florida beaches, liturgy, all things Scottish except for haggis, the color purple, learning Spanish.
Pet peeves: Typos, weeds, lutefisk, slugs and earwigs, lack of lightning and thunder in the Pacific northwest, shrimp, no nonstop flights between Seatac and Tampa, conjugating Spanish verbs.
Topics I’m passionate about: Women’s and girls issues, publishing, poverty and injustice, telling World Vision’s story, short-term missions, The Hole in Our Gospel.
Jane Sutton-Redner, Editor-in-Chief
What I do: Oversee editorial, photography, and design for World Vision’s publications, making sure everybody plays nice.
What I like: Books, magazines, naps, coffee, Psalms, my son’s laugh, my husband’s cooking, the Oregon coast, every U2 song ever, chocolate.
Pet peeves: Misplaced apostrophes, slow PCs, having to pay extra for aisle seats on flights.
Topics I’m passionate about: Children, gender equality, literacy, narrative nonfiction.
Jon Warren, Photo Director
What I do: Photography for World Vision, photo editing, training for national communications staff.
What I like: Family, hearing stories, outdoor activities, reading, great movies, good food, wonderful light, original music.
Pet peeves: Lukewarm tea, making the same mistake twice.
Topics I’m passionate about: Justice, beauty, faith, ecology, culture.
James Addis, Senior Editor
What I do: Gather stories for World Vision publications, secure and brief contributors, and ensure copy is supplied on deadline.
What I like: The Economist, a good debate, cycling to work, dinner out with my wife, a great story.
Pet peeves: Missed deadlines, factual errors, rudeness, political skullduggery.
Topics I’m passionate about: Since becoming a father of two, I am ever more convinced the world needs to be kinder to children.
Ryan Smith, Associate Editor
What I do: I proofread stories, help coordinate the magazine design process, manage Web projects, and occasionally write stories.
What I like: Hiking, alpine lakes, used book stores, warm cookies, the sound of the ocean, food from my little balcony garden.
Pet peeves: Extraneous apostrophes, tomatoes, empty coffee pots, folding laundry.
Topics I’m passionate about: Fair trade, Seattle sports teams, proper grammar and punctuation (yes, I’m actually passionate about that).
Kari Costanza, Contributing Editor
What I do: Report and write stories for World Vision and sometimes produce videos.
What I like: Feeding my children breakfast in the morning, walking for exercise, and whistling.
Pet peeves: When the post office changes the price of stamps; I boycott several multinational corporations I probably shouldn’t name.
Topics I’m passionate about: Anything about people, the history of places, taking classes at my church.
