Sponsors from across the United States share how they pray for the children they support.
A few months ago, we asked a question on Facebook. How do you pray for your sponsored child?
More than 100 people responded, and we chose a few to run in our print magazine (see image above).
But we still want to hear from more of you. Tell us how you pray for your sponsored child in the comments section below.
Sponsor: Melissa Turi / Shorewood, Ill.
Sponsored Children: Ana and José / Guatemala
“I pray God keeps [Jose’s] belly full and his bed warm at night and that he will live in a town with a school someday; for [Ana] I pray she keeps enjoying school and is blessed with food and shelter and that both sponsored children are loved every day.”
Sponsor: Janice Krug / North Plainfield, N.J.
Sponsored Child: Sumitra / Bangladesh
“I keep [Sumitra’s] picture on the refrigerator as a constant reminder to pray for her. I pray that she learns to love the Lord and lean on him and know he loves her.”
Sponsor: Joshua Legas / Des Moines, Wash.
Sponsored Child: Moteng / South Africa
“I have an orange World Vision rubber bracelet … that I wear 24/7. Whenever I glance at it or am aware of it, I say a prayer for [Moteng] and World Vision’s work: I pray for safety, health, and courage as he grows up being the oldest man of the house to his mom and siblings. Most of all, I pray that he will continue to hear about God and strengthen his relationship with him.”
Sponsor: Karla Foster / Jefferson City, Mo.
Sponsored Child: Edwin / Bolivia
“I pray for God to meet [Edwin’s] physical needs and help him grow strong and healthy. I think my main prayer now is that as he prepares to be a young adult and leaves being a sponsored child, that he will continue to walk with God and be a man of God for his family.”
Sponsor: Jeanie Smith / Sagle, Idaho
Sponsored Child: Michel / Lebanon
“I pray that God will guide [Michel] as he enters adolescence, and that he and his family will be protected by God as they live in a conflict-prone area of the world.”
Sponsor: Jettie Hathaway / Howell, Mich.
Sponsored Children: Dio / Indonesia Nas hka / Haiti Betengwa / Rwanda
“My 5-year-old daughter always sweetly prays that [Dio, Nashka, and Betengwa] would have ‘food, water, and clothing … and that they would come to know [God] more.’ ”

I pray that Yahweh’ll guide Maria as she enters adolescence, and that she will be protected by Yahweh after and as she gets settled in a restricted nation–a Muslim nation–which would be a restricted nation in the farthest corners of The Middle East.

I pray for Nozuko, in South Africa, that she does well in school, so that she can have a good foundation for her future.

I pray that Daniel and Murawork’s basic needs will always be met. That they grow to love and serve the Lord. That they believe in setting, working towards and achieving their goals.

The following are words from a song by Lady Antebellum, that double perfectly as a prayer for Halima, my sponsored child:
“May the angels protect you, trouble neglect you, and heaven accept you when it’s time to go home. May you always have plenty, your glass never empty, and know in your belly, your never alone. May your tears come from laughing, you find friends worth having, with every year passing they mean more than gold. May you ever stay humble, smile more than grumble and know when you stumble you’re never alone.” -
We have sponsored our Kerob, soon to be 20, since he was 13 years old. He wants to be a teacher of history and our prayer is that he will be able to take both his knowledge and his faith into the classroom. We pray that he will be a force for good in Armenia and help his nation grow more stable and influential.

I pray for my current sponsored child, Aly, and my previous children who grew up and out of sponsorship: Joho Jaimito and Ba Demba Mamadou. I also pray for all children under World Vision wing. I cover them all by the blood of the lamb then bless them: “The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracoius to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace. Amen”.

I pray for Isaias that he will be safe from harm of the drug cartels, that he is doing well in school, and that he will come to know Jesus more.

I always pray the Rosary on my way to work. I offer it for my two sponsored children Ricardo (Dominican Republic) and Luke (Zambia). I pray that they do good in school, that they stay healthy, that harm stays away from them and their families; I pray for their siblings and their parents and grandparents. I pray for the weather to “behave” so they have a good harvest. I pray that they succeed in life and that they can reach their full potential. I pray that their dreams come true. Lately I’ve been praying a lot for Luke since he told me he was nervous about not passing his 7th grade exams. I pray that I don’t fail them as sponsor and that I can do all in my power to help them as much as I can. I pray for their communities to graduate and become self-sufficient one day. I ask God that He helps them both to break the circle of poverty.
